Frequently Asked Questions About Geothermal Exchange

HOW MUCH MONEY WILL I SAVE ON MY UTILITY BILLS?
You can expect to save 35% to 70% of your heating & air conditioning costs, depending on if you use gas, oil or electric . Note that air conditioning is already an intregal part of the GeoExchange system, where it would normally cost extra to have installed.

WILL I QUALIFY FOR ENERGY CREDITS OR TAX WRITE-OFFS?
Some lenders, such as Countrywide, are offering discounted rates for home financing. There is an increasing effort from legislators to reward those individuals installing green energy. We expect more credits to homebuyers will be available within the next 2 years. Note that the value of a home with a Geothermal system is up to 5% more than comparable homes with traditional fuel source system.

WHAT MAINTENANCE IS REQUIRED AND WILL I NEED TO REPLACE PARTS?
Inside the home, less maintenance is required for a geothermal system than other forced-air heating systems. Over the life of the system, geothermal heating has fewer parts to replace which will save additional costs. The exterior ground loops require no maintenance.

WHAT TEMPERATURE RANGES WILL THE SYSTEM TOLERATE?
The in-ground geoexchange system maintains an extremely consistant source temperature due to the depth of the “loops”. The system’s indoor range is apx. 30% greater than the typical outside heat pump.

WILL YOU WARRANTY THE SYSTEM? FOR HOW LONG?
The Hydron Module is warranted for one year. The gound loops have a 50-year manufacturer’s warrantee but have been tested to have a 200+ year lifespan.

HOW FAR DOWN DO YOU HAVE TO DRILL?
The optimal operating temperature is the mid-50 degrees. The distance to drill varies depending on soil type and conductivity, but the vertical looped GSHP system traditionally are drilled approcxiamately 250 to 300 feet for both loops.

WILL THE SYSTEM WORK DURING A POWER FAILURE?
The earth will continue to provide an uniterupted fuel source, however, the distribution fan needs electricity to operate.
